NEW LIFE

The Winston-Salem Rescue Mission was established in 1967 in response to hundreds of homeless men wandering the streets. It is actively involved in meeting the physical, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of destitute people ever since.

The Mission effectively cares for over 100 men each day, enriching men’s lives with nurturing and recovery services. Alpha Acres offers drug and alcohol recovery center in a twelve-month program consisting of intense Bible study, academic instruction, hard work, and recreation.

SOLVING THE PROBLEM

The Winston-Salem Rescue Mission had outgrown their current facility. Over the years, they had purchased most of the surrounding small commercial buildings. Some were being used for temporary facilities, while others had been simply taken down.

DEFINING THE NEEDS

We look at all aspects of the current programs and services to come up with estimated square We point Rescue Ministries to sources for the planning and funding of new Thrift Stores or expansion of existing ones.

The conceptual design we produce includes a colored site plan, floor plans and exterior color renderings for use in a capital campaign and for presentations to donors.

FINDING DONORS

An interesting shift in major donor funding is happening right now. The Greatest Generation, who has been supporting local Rescue Ministries for decades, are beginning to contribute large amounts of their wealth towards capital campaigns. Through financial planning, they have first taken care of their families and now want to pass on a legacy to the causes they have supported for decades. Their compassion for “the least, the last, and the lost” is looking for a place to give.

BUILDING HOPE

When it was time to build a new building, the remainder of the old buildings surrounding the Mission were torn down and a new 4-story facility was built. It now includes a large dining room and kitchen on the ground floor. The men’s recovery program is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. New administration offices and community meeting center is on the 4th floor. The existing building was remodeled and updated to be used as an emergency shelter for men.
